About

About Water Works

There is a global water and sanitation crisis, killing 4,000 children every day. Without safe water or somewhere to go to the toilet, health, education and livelihoods are massively undermined.

WaterAid has launched the Water Works campaign to urge governments across the world to do more to tackle the water and sanitation crisis. We will show world leaders that taps and toilets are cheap, simple and life saving, and that investing in these basic human needs is an urgent priority.

Thousands of supporters have already joined the campaign by writing to their political representatives and signing our photo petition. Now we’re calling for you to take our pledge and show that you will hold your government to account when they return from the High Level Meeting.

Sign our pledge form here and share it with your friends, family and colleagues so we can make sure governments around the world know we are watching what they do at the High Level Meeting.

What can I do?

The meeting in Washington DC will be crucial for millions of people who live without water and sanitation. We need world leaders to know that their actions at the High Level Meeting are being watched by thousands around the world.

You can pledge your support by visiting our take action page and signing up to our pledge. By doing this, you can show that there are thousands of people watching the events in Washington and we’ll be able to contact you with more information about what your government signs up to.

What is the aim of the campaign?

Aid spent on water and sanitation is declining as a proportion of total development aid. This needs to be urgently addressed if the world is to meet the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

This campaign sets out to raise the priority of water and sanitation so we need you to play your part by showing that Water Works and that you’re watching what is taking place at the High Level Meeting.

Supporters have already taken thousands of actions from writing to their political representatives to signing our photo petition. Our latest campaign action is to sign our pledge to hold your Government to account and get as many of your friends, colleagues and family to do the same.

We want governments to commit to:

  • Increasing resources to water and sanitation to achieve the Millennium Development Goals
  • Targeting resources at the countries and at the people who have the least access to water and sanitation
